The Goodhue County Attorney’s Office is seeking qualified applicants for a Summer Legal Intern who are eligible to practice under the Supervised Practice Rules of the Minnesota Board of Law Examiners.
This is a temporary part time position, 30 to 40 hours per week, not to exceed 480 hours and will be compensated at a rate of $22.
00 per hour.
A qualified candidate may either be an “eligible law student” or an “eligible recent graduate” as defined under Rule 2 of the Supervised Practice Rules.
An eligible law student must be: duly enrolled at the time of certification in a law school approved by the American Bar Association (ABA); have completed legal studies equivalent to at least two semesters of fulltime study prior to certification; be certified by the dean or designee of the law school as being in good academic standing and qualified to participate either in a paid or unpaid capacity in a practice placement or clinical program in order to provide legal services to clients as a law student practitioner.
The Summer Legal Intern will work under the supervision of a licensed attorney within the Goodhue County Attorney’s Office.
The Summer Intern’s primary responsibilities will include legal research and writing, drafting criminal complaints, appearing in court on Juvenile and Misdemeanor criminal prosecutions, as well as conducting court trials on traffic matters.
Preference will be given to qualified applicants who have an expressed interest in working in government or in a County Attorney’s office following graduation.

Pursuant to MN Statute, seasonal assignments are limited to 67 working days per calendar year or 100 working days per calendar year if the employees are under the age of 22, are full-time students enrolled in a nonprofit or public educational institution prior to being hired by the employer, and have indicated, either in an application for employment or by being enrolled at an educational institution for the next academic year or term, an intention to continue as students during or after their temporary employment.
