RESPONSIBILITIES:
With guidance, the incumbent plans and conducts research to develop or modify product formulations and processes.
This will require the ability to design basic research strategies to facilitate decision making.
Investigates, recommends, and evaluates changes to improve plant and production operations by developing new, or modifying existing processes.
The ideal candidate will be able to facilitate input from multiple sources.
Manages multiple projects of various degrees of difficulty that include input and direction from a number of adjacent business areas.
The candidate will be able to integrate this input and provide opinions and direction.
Communicates effectively with Company and supplier employees at all levels using verbal, oral and written skills to accurately define requirements, interpret project goals into actionable tasks, coordinate tests at various locations with production and management personnel, document results, and present recommendations for implementing new or modified product formulas or processes.
Fulfills the role of technical service and scientific advisor for assisting production personnel in solving problems or providing advice when dealing with specific questions or challenges on an as-needed basis.
The ideal candidate will be able to seek input and gain buy-in for implementing solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Meat Science, or related field is required
Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills
R &D Hormel canning experience or Product Intern experience
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States

Preferred:
A Master's Degree in Meat Science, Food Science or related field
Prior experience with processed meat or multicomponent retorted foods
HACCP and FSMA knowledge and processing experience with food processing equipment (retorts, thermal processing)
LOCATION: Austin, MN Relocation assistance is available.
TRAVEL: 10-20%
