Merchants Bank has an opening for a Director of Residential Mortgage Sales.
This on-site position can work from any Merchants Bank location in MN or WI with the expectation of working in the Winona, MN office 30% of the time.
Must be willing to travel to other branch locations on a routine basis.
This role will oversee and optimize all residential mortgage sales activities across the organization while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Duties include overseeing the business development program for both the retail and correspondent channels of our residential mortgage lending department.
The ability to lead is vital to the ongoing growth, success, and overall organizational strategy.
Must have a proven track record of driving sales revenue growth and enhancing customer satisfaction.
15 years of residential mortgage lending experience in the banking industry required.
Must have proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required, and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional tams and stakeholder.
Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.

Job Summary: As the Director of Residential Mortgage Sales, you will play a critical role in overseeing and optimizing all residential mortgage sales activities across the Merchants Bank organization.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of our residential mortgage sales operations.
Your expertise and leadership will drive loan volume, profitability, customer satisfaction, and contribute to the overall success of the bank.
The Director of Residential Mortgage Sales will oversee the business development programs for both the retail and correspondent channels of the residential mortgage lending department.
The ability to lead is vital to the ongoing growth and success of the department.
Continuous improvement in operational processes and customer service levels will be a high priority for success in the overall organizational strategy.
This position can work out of any Merchants Bank location, provided that it has office space available.
The base expectation is for this position to spend 30% of the time in Winona.
Must be willing to travel to other Merchants Bank locations on a routine basis.
Essential Duties: Develop and Implement Strategic Initiatives: • Collaborate with the CBO/President-Winona and Executive team to define and execute the strategic direction for residential mortgage lending production.
• Establish short-term and long-term goals, objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the entire residential mortgage lending team.
• Identify opportunities to enhance residential mortgage lending processes, systems, and policies to increase efficiency and profitability.
Lead and Manage Residential Mortgage Lending Business Development: • Provide strong leadership and guidance to the residential mortgage lending employees, ensuring alignment with the bank's three strategic pillars, mission, and values.
• Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork, open communication, and a strong customer service culture.
• Monitor and analyze key performance metrics to identify trends, strengths, and areas of improvement, implementing appropriate measures to drive performance and meet organizational goals.
Enhance Customer Experience: • Foster a customer-centric culture across branches, ensuring that every interaction with customers reflects our commitment to exceptional service.
• Develop and implement customer experience strategies to attract and retain customers, enhance loyalty, and increase customer satisfaction.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices to continuously improve and innovate our residential mortgage lending sales routines to meet evolving customer needs.
Drive Sales and Revenue Growth: • Collaborate with and provide leadership for internal teams to develop and execute strategies for driving relationship building, product penetration, and cross-selling opportunities.
• Monitor loan origination performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement initiatives to increase sales revenue and profitability.
• Foster a culture that emphasizes proactive customer engagement, relationship building, and sales excellence across all branches.
Ensure Compliance and Risk Management: • Oversee the implementation and adherence to regulatory compliance and risk management policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with the Risk Management department to address any compliance or risk-related issues promptly and effectively.
• Stay up to date on industry regulations and proactively implement changes to always ensure compliance.
Recruiting and Onboarding: • This position is responsible for working with HR to establish and maintain best practices around recruiting and onboarding for residential mortgage lending employees.
Training and Development: • Work closely with the Training department to develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for the residential mortgage lending employees, covering bank policies, procedures, products, and customer service standards.
• Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for existing residential mortgage lending employees to enhance their skills, knowledge, and job performance.
• Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the effectiveness of residential mortgage lending training programs.
• Responsible for working in collaboration with the Risk Management department on fraud prevention with focus on policies, procedures, training, and enforcement of expectations.
Performance Management: • Establish clear performance expectations, goals, and metrics for residential mortgage lending employees.
• Deliver regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to residential mortgage lending employees.
• Create development plans for underperforming employees and implement performance improvement measures when necessary.
• Implement activities to recognize and reward outstanding performance.
Coaching and Mentoring: • Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to residential mortgage lending employees to enhance their skills, knowledge, and professional growth.
• In person engagement with each residential mortgage lender quarterly for coaching and mentoring opportunities.
A minimum of bi weekly virtual check in sessions with each associate to inspect business development pipeline and performance metrics.
• Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that encourages teamwork, open communication, and a strong customer service culture.
• Engagement with residential mortgage lending employees around Voice of the Customer feedback.
• Support residential mortgage lending employees in resolving customer issues and handling complex transactions appropriately.
Staffing models and staffing needs: • Work with HR, and the CBO/President -Winona to determine residential mortgage lending staffing needs at each branch based on data and opportunity models • Develop a plan of action and coordinate staffing needs to accommodate peak periods, vacations, and absenteeism, and to monitor overtime.
Department Consistency Meetings: • Prepare and coordinate consistency meetings including developing agenda, determining meeting location, and sending out meeting invitation.
• Prepare presentations on relevant topics.
• Lead the implementation of new procedures and processes.

Experience and Skill Requirements: • Proven track record of driving sales revenue growth and enhancing customer satisfaction.
• 15 years of residential mortgage lending experience in the banking industry.
• Strong knowledge of residential mortgage lending banking products, services, and operations.
• Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strategic mindset • Strong financial acumen, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently.
• In-depth understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management in the banking industry.
Relationships: Reports to the Chief Banking Officer/President-Winona for fulfillment of functions and responsibilities.
Will have contact with customers and other department supervisors to assist with a variety of matters and must interact in a manner that is conducive to an effective and efficient operation of the Bank.
May also participate in outside meeting and community projects.
