The Destination Medical Center Economic Development Agency (DMC EDA) is the staff that assists the DMCC in planning and executing the DMC Development Plan (a visionary 20-year plan that started in 2015) and adopted strategies for economic development in Rochester, MN.
The DMC EDA consists of an experienced team of professionals who execute a comprehensive strategy to steward $585 million of public investment and leverage that investment with the goal of attracting over $5 billion in private investment to the market.
This position is responsible for supporting the organization’s business development goals around the following three strategic focus areas: 1.
Building awareness of Rochester as a life science business destination.
2.
Building a local ecosystem capable of supporting developing life science businesses.
3.
Building life science specific infrastructure and physical assets that help Rochester compete more effectively on a global stage.

This position will require work outside of normal business hours and national/international travel.

Required: Four-year college degree 3-5 years previous economic development experience OR 3-5 years previous life science experience The ability to travel up to 50% is expected for the position (overnight, in state, out of state, and international) Awareness Building (75%): The goal of the DMC awareness building initiative is to increase the overall baseline understanding of Rochester as a place to do business, to educate target audiences on assets and investments made by DMC in Rochester, and to more closely connect the work of the Mayo Clinic to both DMC and the City of Rochester.
In this role you will be asked to manage an annual program of work that includes: 1.
Overseeing multiple lead generation campaigns per year directed at high-growth life science companies from around the world.
2.
Participating in a variety of domestic and international life science focused industry events, trade shows, expos, and trade missions.
3.
Networking with life science focused industry associations and government groups from around the world and facilitating connections to the Rochester and Minnesota ecosystems.
4.
Educating site location professionals and other “location influencer” groups from around the world on the benefits of doing business in Rochester.
Ecosystem Building (20%): The goal of the DMC ecosystem building initiative is the continued improvement of our local life science industry environment, and the continued support of our local life science companies.
Their success is the best demonstration of what our market has to offer expanding or relocating businesses.
In this role you will be asked to support fellow DMC staff in defining, engaging, and growing our regional life science ecosystem.
Activities could include: 1.
Participating in research projects designed to better define, quantify, and measure the needs of our local ecosystem.
2.
Contributing to an engagement plan designed to better support the needs of the local life science ecosystem in the areas of education, connection, marketing, and promotion.
3.
Participating in the execution of a variety of ecosystem engagement activities each year, including designing content, identifying participants, and facilitating their successful completion.
Infrastructure Building (5%): The goal of the DMC infrastructure building initiative is to continuously identify, and stay ahead of, the infrastructure needs of our local life science industry.
In this role, you will support fellow DMC staff in developing annual infrastructure investment plans to support our life science recruitment, and ecosystem building work.
